This porteña tango dancer, born in Buenos Aires, has been connected to the world of dance since childhood. Gaby began her dance journey with jazz and sports aerobics, later exploring various international rhythms such as hip hop, salsa, axé, theater dance, and lindy hop. At 21, driven by a desire to connect more deeply with her culture and traditions, she discovered tango—a revelation that ignited her true passion and vocation. She immersed herself in the world of tango, studying with numerous esteemed teachers in various schools to develop her own unique style. Notable mentors include Chicho Frúmboli and Juana Sepúlveda, Alejandro Larenas and Marisol Morales, Bruno Tombari and Rocío Lequio, Pablo Rodríguez and Corina Herrera, Moria Castellano, Dana Frígoli, and Corina de la Rosa.

After earning a degree in pharmacy from the University of Buenos Aires, Gaby realized that her true professional path lay in dance. She fully committed herself to teaching and dancing tango, leaving behind her pharmaceutical career. Since then, she has regularly taught at prominent milongas in Buenos Aires, including the well-known Viva la Pepa Milonga, La Mandrilera Milonga, and La María Milonga, where she has also been a co-creator and organizer.

She has participated in various tango festivals across the U.S., including the 2024 Valentango festival.

Gaby Mataloni

A consummate global citizen and polyglot, Dominic has enriched his artistry through residencies in cities renowned for their cultural significance, including Buenos Aires, Paris, Berlin, Florence, Budapest, Moscow, and Pune. These experiences have informed his nuanced approach to Tango, which integrates diverse cultural perspectives. He has played a pivotal role in nurturing Tango communities in regions such as Armenia and India, where he will tour for the third time in 2025.

Dominic’s pedagogy is rooted in a holistic understanding of Tango as both a social dance and an expressive art form. His methodology emphasizes the mastery of fundamental elements—embrace, connection, floorcraft, musicality, and improvisation—while fostering personal artistry. He also delves into the therapeutic and humanistic dimensions of the dance, championing its potential to build deeper interpersonal connections and enrich emotional well-being.

In addition to his teaching and performing, Dominic is a dedicated mentor, event organizer, and institution builder. He has established Tango schools, guided emerging teachers and performers, and curated immersive experiences that inspire both novices and seasoned dancers.

Meet Michelle Lamb:

One of New York City’s best-known and most accomplished tangueras, Michelle Lamb took her first dance steps at the age of six at the world-renowned San Francisco School of Ballet. Her dance experience has been broad and eclectic including touring and performing with famous musical artists like Liza Minnelli and Aretha Franklin in prestigious venues such as The Royal Albert Hall in London and off-Broadway theaters in New York City.

Ms. Lamb has toured the world extensively to teach and perform Argentine tango, often with famous tango orchestras and composers. In the United States she has headlined major tango festivals such as Windy City Tango Festival in Chicago and the San Diego Tango Festival. Michelle currently resides in NYC, teaching tango and the Gyrotonic Expansion System, a holistic movement practice that complements dance and improves flexibility and strength. Every Sunday night, she runs El Destino, one of New York’s hottest milongas.

SCHEDULE

Saturday, March 16th, 2024

  • 12:00-4:00 pm: Understanding the musical structure of Argentine Tango. Argentine Tango music is defined by certain elements: rhythmic patterns, phrasing, and contrasts between punchy rhythms and lyrical melodies. In the first part of the workshop we will uncover what these elements are in order to hear the music on a deeper level. Then we will shift to feeling how sound in general translates into movement intuitively and uniquely in each person’s body. This will help liberate us to dance more freely and tap into our own musical expression. We will then work on specific tools for musical expression.

𝐒𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐲, March 17th, 2024

  • 1:00-4:15 pm: Interpretation for the leader and follower: we have many different ways to interpret the music that are dependent on not only the music itself, but also the connection with our partner. We will learn how to communicate and listen for each other’s musical desires. We’ll then discuss stylistic differences between the major tango orchestras and work on tools we can use to dance to each orchestra in a unique way, and putting it all together into a more musical dance.

Pricing & Registration:

  • Pre-registration is required by e-mailing Alex (tangoberrretin@gmail.com).
  • Space is limited and workshops will be role-balanced.
  • Participants must have at least 6 months of Argentine Tango dancing.
  • The material will be applicable to beg/int through advanced dancer.

Fernanda Ghi Tango Workshops

Fernanda Ghi

About Fernanda

Fernanda Ghi started dancing at a very early age and chose tango dance as her only form of artistic expression. She has traveled the world for more than 3 decades, creating, producing and teaching, and stands out as one of the artists of the hinge generation between the tango of the 1980s and the 2000s. Her teaching has been continuously evolving along with her personal growth, adapting the dance to each social moment without losing its essence. Fernanda maintains that tango is based on three fundamental pillars: a clear definition of the partners’ roles; a constant and active embrace; and a common axis of the dancing couple. The starting point is the music, which determines the dynamics of expression, and thus creates a “style”, but the “style” is never the starting point. A clear understanding of the mechanics ensures that no undue stress is placed on the body and each movement is a response to a partner’s movement. The Tango that Fernanda teaches is based on a deep understanding of the essence of the dance and allows each student to find their own personal manner of expression, without losing the universal language of Tango and the culture from which it comes.

SCHEDULE

Saturday, January 20th, 2024

  • 1:00-4:15 pm: This workshop is designed for intermediate and above tango dancer. In this workshop, Fernanda will be emphasizing the concepts of tension, opposites and the power of the floor. It is constantly applied from the floor to the partner and expresses the music and the intention of next movement. (Intermediate and above) – $50/person

No partner or pre-registration is required.

  • 7:30-8:30 pm: Drop-in all levels class on the milonga rhythm with Fernanda ($20)
