Organizers: Dominic Bridge & Shabu Studios
Ready to try Argentine Tango? Now is your chance! Whether you’re looking for a taste or wanting to jumpstart a new journey, we got you! In this Beginner Bootcamp we will be covering several of Tango’s fundamentals including walking, turns, embrace, and footwork.
Tango is such a versatile dance, which is why its movements can be found scattered throughout many other dances such as Fusion, Blues, Salsa, Zouk, Kizomba, and others. Because Argentine Tango highlights total improvisation, musicality, and lead-follow connection, many people find that tango technique improves dancing skills in all other social dances, even partnering in Ballet or cross-training for boxing and martial arts!
By the end of this seminar you will gain important basic concepts central to tango such as: how we use the floor and frame, how to connect your movement to your center of gravity, how to feel subtle cues from your partner, as well as a rundown of the etiquette in traditional milongas (tango socials).
Your teacher, Dominic Bridge, has been back home in Portland since the pandemic but is normally based in Europe. Over the past 15 years as a full time tango artist he has toured in over 20 countries and 17 U.S. states. He is also co-organizer of the Portland Tango Festival this October 7-10, 2021.
